Position Summary
The Product Owner plays a critical role in the development, enhancement and maintenance of the FA Rating Engine, ensuring it effectively supports our specialty insurance products and operations. The incumbent bridges the gap between business needs and technology, leading system improvements that streamline workflows and support business process changes by collaborating with cross-functional teams. They are also responsible for maximizing the value of the Rate Engine by developing and communicating the product vision to key stakeholders, managing and prioritizing the work (waterfall and agile).
This is a full-time, permanent position that requires a minimum of 2 days per month in the office. Key Responsibilities:
Product Management
- Define and communicate a product vision that aligns with FA’s insurance mandates and operational goals.
- Drive improvements to the Rating Engine that reflect regulatory changes, business rules, and market realities of the Canadian insurance landscape.
- Ensure system changes meet the needs of Brokers, Direct Writers, and Servicing Carriers while supporting accurate rating and underwriting processes.
- Act as a subject matter expert, translating insurance concepts into clear, actionable requirements for technical teams.
Development Prioritization & Execution
- Prioritize backlog items based on regulatory urgency, business impact, and operational risk.
- Apply Agile and/or Waterfall methodologies to manage delivery timelines and ensure clarity of scope.
- Work closely with developers to provide insurance-specific context and answer detailed business process questions.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Partner with internal stakeholders to understand business problems, compliance requirements, and emerging needs in the insurance space.
- Collaborate with external partners to gather feedback and ensure the Rating Engine continues to meet expectations.
- Provide regular updates to leadership and stakeholders on progress, roadmaps, and priorities.
Qualifications
- Undergraduate degree in Business Administration, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in product ownership, project management, or systems development, ideally in the P&C insurance industry.
- Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) designation preferred.
- Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO) or Professional Scrum Product Owner (PSPO) is an asset.
- Deep understanding of insurance systems, rating engines, and product lifecycle in a regulated environment.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Strong analytical thinking and the ability to navigate complex business and technical landscapes.
